Author Serena Bartlett revels in discovering new and fun ways to tread more lightly on the planet. She has lived and traveled in more than 25 countries as an active spokesperson for eco-travel. Serena is a regular contributor to a number of national and Bay Area publications, having written stories on everything from shampoo-making with garden ingredients to green business tips to an interview with one or her role models, Riane Eisler.
She has appeared on KRON 4’s Bay Area Backroads, ABC7’s View from the Bay as a green travel expert as well as on other programs, and has been a featured guest on several radio stations. Serena is a sponge for creative solutions to become more self-reliant, like sewing her own sheets and quilts, designing jewelry, making wild forays in the kitchen, and growing her own edible garden. She is a ski bum at heart and a swimming junkie, equally comfortable on a pack trip with her poodle or as a city slicker.
From Serena
I’ve written five guidebooks so far, the latest to be published are GrassRoutes Guide to Oakland and Berkeley: Urban Eco-Travel, GrassRoutes Guide to Northern California Wine Country: A Green Road Trip, and GrassRoutes Guide to San Francisco: Urban Eco-Travel.
Seattle will be on the shelves June 1st, 2010, and I am really looking forward to this new title – it has the best illustrations, and great tips on tempting chocolate spots, live music venues, even a Gulab Jamun tour of that classic Indian dessert, plus much more…
I write about food, travel, sustainability, and anything that I’m passionate about, or that makes me think a little bit harder. I also love cooking, and making art with all kinds of things: fibers, paints, even things I find discarded on sidewalks.
I can regularly be read on Green Daily, on Examiner, and a bunch of other sites (like Gadling, the Oakland’s Visitor site, and Inside Sonoma), plus I’ve got my own Eating Blog, and a Travel Blog too.
